A Brief History Of Louisiana

Louisiana offers many attractions for its visitors. No matter if you enjoy history, music, food or other things this is the state you will want to visit. Louisiana state history is long and colorful, dating back long before it became a state in 1812. The first ownership of this territory appears to have belonged to the French, when the territory came under French crown in 1731. However, in 1763, the French ceded the territory to the Spanish after the French and Indian Wars.

The region came back under French control for a short time at the turn of the century, but Napoleon sold it to the United States a few short years later. It was at this point that Louisiana state history begins with its entrance into the union not long after. Louisiana state history includes the contribution of many of our natural resources today, including natural gas and petroleum. Many crops are also grown in Louisiana, with some of the best known being sugar cane and cotton. Other crops include sweet potatoes, rice and soybeans. The city of New Orleans has been a popular tourist destination, with millions flocking to see the annual Mardi Gras celebrations, and many more coming to enjoy the picturesque French Quarter, delectable southern cuisine and diverse entertainment of the region.

In August, 2005, Hurricane Katrina left a devastating path of destruction throughout Louisiana, particularly in the area of New Orleans. This dark spot in Louisiana state history is slowly but surely being overcome, with new building and development occurring all the time. However, it will still be some time before this great city regains its rightful place as the crown jewel of Louisiana state history. The history of Louisiana has always been brightly colored by the city of New Orleans, which defies most conventional traditions every Mardi Gras. But this history is one Louisiana is famous for, bringing in tourists every year. Thousands of people make Louisiana history and the streets of its cities their own, proving it to have a rich and diverse culture.

One of the most popular destinations in Louisiana is New Orleans. During Mardi Gras time, you can experience parades, live music and parties going on all over the area. There are many more exciting places to go and things to see and do while visiting Louisiana. In Lafayette, you can explore the swamps and take tours if you like.

There is also great fishing in the area for the people who enjoy the sport of fishing. Baton Rouge offers museums and many historical sites for your entertainment while exploring the area. If you are into games, you can always go to Bossier City and Shreveport, Louisiana for your entertainment. It does not matter where you choose to go in Louisiana you will find many things to do to entertain yourself and your family.

New Orleans, Louisiana has always been known for its culture and history that you will find through the many cultural events and restaurants that are available to you in the city. You can also attend live theater, festivals and shopping to keep you busy. New Orleans is a popular place in Louisiana where many visitors come to each year.

It also offers the French Quarter, which draws in people from all over the country. There are many clubs playing live music from jazz to country or whatever your taste in music may be. You will find some of the finest restaurants around offering many delicious Southern, Cajun and French cuisines. You can take tours that will point out the popular cultural and historical places in the area.

Baton Rouge is the capital of Louisiana. It is a city that has always been popular with the tourist and locals alike. Festivals are all along the riverfront entertainment district and the cities port is among the largest in the United States.

There are many bed and breakfast to stay at while visiting Louisiana. Therefore, if you are traveling through Louisiana and need a good place to stay you will find a bed and breakfast somewhere along the way. There are luxury hotels to stay at if you prefer other accommodations. When going on a vacation with your family to Louisiana you will be sure to enjoy many of the cities and area attractions that this state has to offer.
